Örnek mektup 1:

Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am very disappointed to find out that the Tate Modern Gallery has become the latest propaganda tool for some politically motivated groups.

Genocide is an international crime and is described in the 1948 UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. Neither the UN nor any international courts have certified the tragic events of 1915 as ‘genocide’. The term used on the brochure “widely recognised as the century’s first genocide” is very arbitrary to say the least as it relies on decisions made by biased politicians and not on historical fact.

As a tax-paying and art-loving British citizen I would like to see the Tate Modern Gallery stay impartial on this highly sensitive and disputed international matter and remove propaganda and defamatory material from the exhibition with immediate effect.

Yours sincerely,

Örnek mektup 2:

Dear Sir / Madam,

As a member of the Turkish community living in Britain, I am very disappointed to find out that the Tate Modern Gallery has used insulting and offensive material in the Arshile Gorky exhibition.

The claim made in both written and audio material that the 1915 events are “widely recognised as the century’s first genocide” is an arbitrary accusation and a distortion of historical facts. Historians specialising in Ottoman History state that when the First World War broke out there were Armenian uprisings and massacres committed by both sides as a result of inter-ethnic violence and the wider conflict of war. Moreover, there is no evidence that the Ottoman government deliberately attempted to destroy the Armenian population and no proof of pre-meditation. It is very objectionable that you use the term ‘genocide’ in any form to describe the events of 1915.

Therefore, I request you to revise the aforementioned materials and to replace them with appropriate terms instead of unproven allegations.

Yours sincerely,

(Adiniz – soyadiniz)

Örnek mektup 3:

Dear Sir / Madam,

It is very disappointing to find out that a prestigious art museum such as the Tate Modern Gallery is taking sides in a historical dispute with the Arshile Gorky exhibition.

However tragic the life of Arshile Gorky and the events of 1915 might be, to label those events as ‘genocide’ is groundless and contrary to historical truth. The Ottoman Archives have been researched by many historians; secondary sources and foreign archives support the idea that there is not a single shred of evidence to prove the 1915 events constitute genocide. Therefore, using the term ‘genocide’ to describe those events only serves as propaganda and incites racial hatred against the Turkish community.

I strongly condemn the Tate Modern for using art to push people apart rather than bring them together. I hope as a distinguished art museum the Tate Modern will stop bowing to certain pressure groups and revise carefully the publication and programme of the exhibition to finally put Gorky’s soul to rest.

Yours sincerely

(Adiniz – soyadiniz)
